History of The 39th Company

The 39th Singapore Company was formed on 7 February, 1987 at Pasir Panjang Hill Brethren Chapel. Raymond Kwok was appointed the Captain and Dr Benny Tan was the Chaplain. The other two Officers were Lawrence Leong and Kwan Mei Fong.

In our first year we recruited 25 Boys from Blangah Rise Primary School to form a Junior Section Company. A year later, we shifted to Qifa Primary School. In 1991, we decided to operate a Senior Section for secondary school students and shifted to Swiss Cottage Secondary School.

Though the BB is a relatively smaller group in Swiss Cottage, the Boys enjoy a wide range of outdoor activities like camps, canoeing, archery, rockwall, rappelling and campfires. The program highlight will be the annual Exercise Challenger planned by the senior NCOS, a demanding 3 days-2 nights expedition covering more than 30km.

We aim to give the Boys a quality program embracing the four aspects: physical, social, mental and spiritual well-being. A half-hour devotion is held during parades on Saturday mornings, with the aim that 'if we can't bring then Boys to Sunday School, we will bring the Sunday School to them!'
